Recap: PCOS Workshop

Photos of PCOS presentation event

On December 8, 2016, we had the opportunity to reach out to our local Marine Corps community and teach a workshop about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, or PCOS.

Background

A few months ago, I received an email from the Marine Corps Community Services Exceptional Family Member Program for the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot/Western Recruiting Region here in San Diego, California.  They wanted to know if Bloomin’ Uterus could coordinate a PCOS Workshop for their interested enrolled members, which included staff, service members, and/or family of service members.  Of course, I jumped at the chance!

I reached out to Dr. Mara Killen, a nurse practitioner at San Diego Women’s Health, my doctor’s office.  The staff at San Diego Women’s Health have been so incredibly helpful in my Endometriosis diagnosis, treatment, and journey and I’m so grateful that Dr. Killen agreed to speak at the PCOS presentation.

Pelvic Pain and Chiropractic Care Workshop

A clutching her abdomen in pain

UPDATE JULY 7, 2016: The workshop has been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a future date.  Apologies.

Element Wellness Center reached out to our little support group to see if we’d be interested in having Dr. Ryan Hummel host a workshop on how chiropractic care may help with pelvic pain.  One of his staff members used to suffer horrible pelvic pain due to her Endometriosis.  She sought treatment and feels so much better.  She is so passionate about how it changed her life that she started working there.

Recap : Nigeria’s 2016 Endo Awareness

People walking in Nigeria's 2015 Endo Walk

Abuja is the capital of Nigeria, located in West Africa.  I contacted the organizers of the 2016 Awareness Walk for Abuja to get some information about how their walk went.  Chukwudi Eze responded to my inquiry went above and beyond! Not only did he provide me info on their walk, but supplied a recap and photographs of several other Endo events The Endometriosis Support Group Nigeria (ESGN) hosted over the past few months.  The ESGN was founded in 2005 by Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, who was also recently awarded the Endo Hero of the Year Award by the EndoMarch Worldwide in recognition of his contribution to the cause.  Dr. Ajayi has been the financial and moral backbone for the ESGN and I’m very glad that he’s been recognized for his efforts.
