Last Friday, March 18, 2016, was the San Diego Women’s Week Inspiration Conference held at Harrah’s Casino in Valley Center, California.  I coughed up the $170 to go because I really wanted to see one of the scheduled speakers, Padma Lakshmi.  Don’t know who Padma is? Not only is she a model and TV personality, but she’s the co-founder of the Endometriosis Foundation of America.  And a little bit of my Hero.

She has recently written a new book Love, Loss & What We Ate: A Memoir, and was on her book tour around the west coast at the time of the conference.  So, I knew I’d pick up a copy of her book on Friday.  I expected she was going to talk a lot about her book, and maybe touch up a little bit about Endometriosis and how it has affected her life and career.

It’s a fantastic testament to a community coming together over our cause.  Several Sisters either have Endometriosis, or know of someone who does, and are willing to put this event together for us!

San Diego Endometriosis Workshop

Wellness Institute logo

If you’re in the San Diego area, save the date  February 24, 2016, at 6pm in Mission Valley.  The Wellness Institute of America contacted us due to our support group.  They offered to host a free workshop specifically targeted around Endometriosis.  They are the local chapter of a national non-profit organization (The Foundation of Wellness Professionals) and would like to donate their time and knowledge to our community.  Dr. Gerald Williams, who specializes in Natural Regenerative Medicine for women’s health, will be speaking.

The details are still all coming together, but if you know you would like to attend (okay to bring a guest), please let me know.  I have a sign-up sheet and I’ll be updating my liaison at the Institute on a weekly basis.  Also, we have asked to make this workshop open to the public (as opposed to limited to our little group), so there will be a Facebook event page soon, which I will circulate to you if you’re interested.

This is exciting!! San Diego is coming together as a whole to raise awareness for our illness.

Yours, Lisa

Our 2015 Endometriosis Awareness Walk

Group photo from 2015 walk

Good morning!

This past Saturday, March 28, 2015, was our little Endometriosis Awareness Walk around Lake Miramar in San Diego, CA!  This was not affiliated or associated with any organization’s event: just a bunch of EndoWarriors, friends, and their support coming together!

We had 20 attendees!  Three of us actually suffer from Endometriosis; the rest of the attendees were family, significant others, and friends.  The sheer support that was present was overwhelming!  Everyone, including the wee kids, made the 5-mile walk around the shorelines.  Some of us were stopped along the way and asked why we were all wearing tie-dye or yellow and what the walk was all about.  We did it.  We did this…together.

A blue lotus blossom with the text Q&A

On March 25, 2015, from 6pm – 7:30pm, Sharp Hospital (San Diego, CA) will be offering a free seminar regarding gynecological issues (including Endometriosis) and advances in robotic surgery.  There will even be a Q&A session with Sharp’s physicians!  There is also a seminar on March 26th, but I will not be able to attend that evening.

I will be attending.  I know many of you are not in my local area, but wanted to see if you had any questions that you would like me to ask!  Just drop a comment below and I’ll make sure and ask!

Let me know if you are going and we can meet up!

Support : Gimme a HUG!

Row of paper dolls holding hands

When I was first diagnosed with Endo, I looked for a support group in San Diego.  A physical, sit-down, meet, greet, and hug support group.  And I found nothing.  Looking around still, I find nothing.  The nearest support group is in Riverside, nearly 100 miles north of me.

I’ve got a few girlfriends that actually have Endometriosis, and it’s good to have them in my life.  Bounce off ideas, bounce off of their experiences, be there for each other.  It’s fantastic, but we rarely see each other with our busy lives, and talk even less, especially about Endo. I’ve got my boyfriend, my friends, and my family offering endless amounts of love, support, and encouragement, but it’s not the same (no offense, loved ones). I’m part of several online communities which offer what an in-person support group should…but again, it’s…lacking something that I crave.
