Happy Friday!

Today’s quote is all about DOING!  Vincent Van Gogh once said,

“What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?”

And it’s true!  Do you have an idea?  Make it happen!  Do you wish there was (fill in the blank) in your town?  Start it.  You want to chop off your ear and give it to a prostitute…well, no, don’t do it…

I’m inspired by my good friend, and EndoSister, Donatella Soul.  She has an idea and she confronts it like a freight train! She’s so passionate and organized and talented and and and – and I can go on and on.

So, you, yes you – what have you been wanting to do? Just go make it happen.  And happy weekend!

letter

Well, I’m a day early; I know…but I’ll be making a road trip to see family and won’t have a chance to share tomorrow.  So, today it is!

I respect my gynecologist so very much.  While sitting with him to discuss recent test results, and my displeasure at my insurance’s handling of a situation, he encouraged me to write a letter, which I did.  He had done so that week already.

The long and short of it is the medical group has decided that HMO patients can no longer have imaging studies performed by my doctor; that we have to be ushered to an off-site facility to have a complete stranger perform the test, then wait a few weeks to hear the results.  PPO patients are still able to have their imaging studies done by my physician…but not HMO.  It was stressful.

But, my doctor said something that resonated on so many levels

“You may not only change your own life, but the lives of others.” ~Dr. Mel Kurtulus

Take that to heart.  And know that your little actions may very well influence many.

Have a wonderful weekend.  I intend to.

Update: January 7, 2021; Several months after this entry, I heard back from my HMO’s medical group. Due to the letter I wrote, they re-approved Dr. Kurtulus to perform in-house ultrasounds. YAY for small victories!

Happy Friday!!!!!

So, I’ve worried less this week about my upcoming doctor’s appointment…but it’s still in the back of my mind.  Figured I’d go through quotes about worry and anxiety.  And found one that made me laugh out loud…again and again. So, today’s choice:

Justin Halpern wrote, “Sh*t my Dad says,” which is just random little quotes from his father.  And today’s has to do with worrying.  And bacon.

“You worry too much. Eat some bacon…what? No, I got no idea if it’ll make you feel better, I just made too much bacon.”

Ha. It immediately made me stop thinking about Tuesday’s pending appointment…and now I want bacon.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Friday!

Yesterday, I took a personal day from work.  I’m anxiously awaiting the results from my recent ultrasound and have been in a tearful funk because of it.  I am doing much better today, thanks to the support of friends and loved ones, but today’s quote is inspired by my letting go and breaking down.

One of my favorite childhood authors, C.S. Lewis, once wrote,

“Crying is all right in its way while it lasts. But you have to stop sooner or later, and then you still have to decide what to do.” ~from The Silver Chair

I remember as a child my mother reading the Chronicles of Narnia books to us before bed.  The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my favorite…but while searching for a quote about crying, I stumbled across this one and knew I had to use it.

I took my day yesterday to cry, rest, reflect, snuggle the cat, watch bad TV, and cry some more.  I let it all go.  And today, I’m more focused and able to wait patiently for the results.   There is nothing I can do to speed up the results, nothing I can do to time travel to 11 days from now to talk to my doctor, nothing I can do…and stressing about it won’t make it any better.  So I’m releasing it.  But I am grateful I took yesterday off to purge.  And am ever-grateful for my friends and family who supported me through yesterday.  You know who you are.

If you’re going through some crap, too, remember : it’s okay to cry.  But at some point, try to dry those eyes and move forward.  Even if it’s one tiny step at a time, even if you need to hold someone’s hand while doing it.

yellow birthday cake decorated with candles and white daisies

Friday already??  This is  an exciting Friday for me because my 37th birthday is just around the corner!  Come Sunday, May 1st, I’ll be one year older!

Normally, I don’t care to celebrate birthdays.  It’s not that I don’t like them, but they’re just another day for me.  I love getting older and wouldn’t go back in time for the world!  And I think I’m just so excited about this one because I’ve looked back on the past year and love all that has happened.  Looking forward to what Year Thirty-Seven brings!

So today’s quote is inspired by the birthday!  Author, Ned Vizzini, once wrote,

“Deep down I believe my year was a special year : it produced me.”

Is this a quote just about MY birthday? No.  I wanted to share it with you so you could each embrace it – YOU are special.  And your year…your vintage…created one hellava great person.  So when you have your next birthday, think highly of yourself.  Celebrate!

Aaaaand…have a GREAT weekend!

Feel Good Friday

We made it through yet another week! Today’s quote is about taking time for yourself, something many of us do not do.  Eleanor Brownn once said,

“Self-care is not selfish. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”

Remember this.  Do not stretch yourself too thin, physically or emotionally, without taking care of your own needs first.

Happy Friday!

Today’s quote is just for you. Yes, you.

“Life is too short to waste any amount of time on wondering what other people think about you. In the first place, if they had better things going on in their lives, they wouldn’t have the time to sit around and talk about you. What’s important to me is not others’ opinions of me, but what’s important to me is my opinion of myself.” ~ C. Joybell C.

Lightning storm

Good morning! We made it to another Friday, albeit a rainy one here in San Diego. I’ve always loved the rain.  I grew up in Arizona and we had some whopping monsoon seasons.  San Diego rain doesn’t compare to the glorious beauty of an Arizona lightning storm and downpour…but I still love it.

Ever since I was a child in my first science fair, I was fascinated with the water cycle:  how rain falls, cleanses the air and earth around us, and it evaporates back up into the clouds, leaving a beautifully fresh and clean feeling around.  Only to be recycled and fall again.  And have you ever had the pleasure of smelling the desert after rainfall. It’s glorious!

Anyway, I digress.  It’s FRIDAY!  And that means today we have a quote!  John Geddes, a fellow blogger has said,

“…I don’t just wish you rain, Beloved – I wish you the beauty of storms…”

Rain can symbolize many things : dark times, sadness, or depression, but also renewal, a fresh start, and beauty.  It’s all in how you perceive it.  And if you’re going through a hard time right now, try to find the beauty in the moment; cling to the hope that the storm will pass, leaving a fresh and uplifted you.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Yours, Lisa

Happy Friday! And happy April Fool’s Day!  I was going to find some quote to fit the theme of the day, but during my search stumbled upon this one…and had to share it.

Rob Liano is a success coach, and he tells us:

“Once you embrace your value, talents and strengths, it neutralizes when others think less of you.”

Take this one to heart…accept yourself, all of you.  And take that demeaning power away from others.
