Feel Good Fridays

A chain with a broken link

We made it through another week!

As you know March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, so I searched for something to do with awareness.  And am pleased I did!!  It falls right into line with my earlier post.  Today’s quote is by American author, David Foster Wallace:

“The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day.”

May you find the freedom from your shackles, whatever they may be.

May you learn to love yourself, as much as you truly deserve.

And may you strive to help others, unselfishly.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Yours, Lisa

Solar flare in space

We made it to another Friday! I hope you’re all doing well today! And if you’re not, I hope your day improves…

Today’s quote is brought to you by American Softball player, Jennie Finch:

“Try not to get lost in comparing yourselves to others. Discover your gifts and let them shine!”

We are ALL different!  Not only in our qualities and traits, but in our mental and physical conditions.  Comparing yourself to someone else will only weaken you; cause you pain, anxiety, sorrow.  Embrace who YOU are.

Someone else’s experience will never be your own.  You can try to mimic their processes, attitudes, and desires, but will never become them.

If a medical treatment has worked for someone else, it may not work for you.  Likewise, your fixes may not be their fixes. If financial planning has worked for someone else, it may not work the same for you.  In any aspect in life, do what is best for you.  Find your way. Don’t get sad if it doesn’t work out; simply try again!

You are amazing, through and through.  Your own qualities, traits, gifts, skills, quirks, and passions need to be let loose and shine! Be yourself. Embrace who you are.

Yours, Lisa

We’ve made it through another week!  And since March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, I figured I’d pick one that had to deal with awareness…and I can’t think of a better way to say it than American author, David Foster Wallace:

“The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day.”

Thank you, David, for putting into words what I couldn’t!

May you begin to find your own bit of freedom…from whatever you’re shackled to.  Begin to love yourself as you deserve to be.  And may you reach out to help those in need.

And have a wonderful weekend!

Yours, Lisa

We made it to another Friday!!

Today’s quote is by English poet, William Wordsworth:

“The best portion of a good man’s life, his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.”

It’s the little things you do, not for glory, but for others that bring the greatest joy:  dropping change into a cup for a hungry Vet on the street, buying the coffee for the person in line behind you, joining a team to help clean up your local parks or neighborhoods, patiently waiting for someone to cross the street before you turn your car, passing on a smile or a nod to a stranger, volunteering at a nursing home or hospital.  The list is endless.

Each of these things, albeit small and “off-the-record” may be just what someone else needs at that moment.

Don’t do it for you…do it for someone else.  You may just find your day is equally touched by your small acts of kindness.

Happy Friday and weekend!

Yours, Lisa

Good morning! It’s Friday! And that means, Feel Good Friday!

Today’s quote is by Swami Vivekananda, an Indian spiritual leader:

“A few heart-whole, sincere, and energetic men and women can do more in a year than a mob in a century.”

What can you do to help change the world? Even the smallest influence.  Just bringing a smile to a stranger’s face may alter the course of their day (and yours). Together we can make a difference, even the slightest difference.  In anything.

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month.  The whole month!  For us, EndoWarriors!  What will you do to help spread awareness?  I plan on:

  • Wearing my Bloomin’ Uterus button every day (like I do already)
  • Participating in the social media Endo Challenge
  • Whenever I use a public bathroom, placing a Bloomin’ Uterus Endo Awareness card in the mirror
  • Wearing my yellow “Ask Me About Endo” ribbon provided by the Endometriosis Association
  • Wearing my Endometriosis Awareness t-shirt created by Lauren Siciliano
  • Wearing my Bloomin’ Uterus t-shirt created by yours truly
  • Walking in March with other women, friends, and family to raise awareness
  • Trying to start a San Diego area Endometriosis Support Group, to meet once a month

Together we can bring change.

Yours, Lisa

The Mirror by William Merritt Chase. A painting of a woman looking in the mirror in Victorian-era attire

It’s Friday! We made it through another week!  Today’s Feel Good Friday quote is by French writer, painter, and poet, Malcolm de Chazal:

“Monkeys are superior to men in this: when a monkey looks into a mirror, he sees a monkey.”

Labels, fashion, movies, accepted norms : they’ve broadcast a false sense of beauty. This is further worsened by depression, chronic conditions, relationship status, etc.  It’s a horrible, downward spiral.  I wish we could all be as innocent as the monkey.

For any of you who may be having self-esteem, self-love, or image issues, whether it be due to Endometriosis, surgeries, depression, the pending Hallmark Card Day (Valentines), or anything, I want you to truly look in the mirror.  Examine yourself from the inside out.  Tell your reflection…tell yourself, that you ARE beautiful and worth it.  Because you are. Make eye contact with yourself.  Hold your head high.  Smile. Do this as often as you need.  Lift yourself up.

Have a good cry if you must.  But be strong.  And embrace who you are, through and through.

Yours, Lisa.

It’s Friiiiiday! We made it through another week!

Today’s Feel Good Friday quote is brought to you by Bodie Thoene, who (coincidentally) was one of my favorite authors growing up.  She and her her husband wrote several series of books and I was sucked into them! Looks like they’re still writing…

“Sometime the only way t’ keep goin’ is t’ keep goin’.”

Words to live by when you’re stuck, when you feel that you cannot go any further.  Unable to take one more step, endure one more ounce of pain.

Yes, yes, you can.  Just hang in there and keep going.

It was fun stumbling across her name in today’s search for a quote.  I nearly peed myself. Nearly. 😉

Have an enjoyable weekend!

Popeye the Sailor Man flexing his muscles

It’s FRIDAY! We made it through another week! And do you know what that means? FEEL GOOD FRIDAY!!!

Today’s Feel Good quote is brought to you by an American consultant, author, and speaker, Dr. Asa Don Brown:

“Allow yourself to be an anchor and anchored by others.”

Inspired by my personal meeting with an EndoWarrior, which showed me how truly important a support system is.  And this goes for ANYONE!  Not just us with Endometriosis.  Be there to support, but also accept the support of others.  We are all in this together, and are all there for one another.

(And yes, my first thought with “Anchor” was Popeye the Sailor Man. So eat your spinach…and be strong!)

May you have a wonderful weekend!

Yours, Lisa

It’s FRIDAY!  We made it another week!  Today’s Feel Good Friday quote is by American author, H. Jackson Brown, Jr.:

Let perseverance be your engine and hope your fuel.

I’ve heard so many, many stories from my EndoWarriors where their doctors do not believe their state of pain, say Endo is “all in their heads,” and continue to refer them out to other “specialists” bouncing them around and around the medical system to be misdiagnosed or ill-treated.  To those Warriors, I shout, “Persevere!” Keep pushing forward.  Keeping looking for a doctor that will believe and understand you! They are out there.  Push for a referral to an Endometriosis Specialist.  Do not let the constant disbelief and shuffling around defeat you!  For those of us who have settled into our diagnosis, persevere through the pain. Find friends and a support system to help you through it.  Find natural exercise and treatments to help.  Find what is right for your body.

And never lose hope.  Hope that there will better treatments. Hope there will be a cure.  Hope that you’ll find the right doctor for you.  Hope that you’ll tailor your diet and supplements to your body.  Hope to find a key support system (sticking with the car theme: your Pit Crew).  Hope for a pain-free day. And one day, a pain-free life.  Never. Lose. Hope.

And for those of you who many not have Endometriosis and you’ve stumbled across this post, the same goes for you.  Persevere in life, and hold onto the hope for your goals and dreams.  You’ll get there.

Have a wonderful Friday, and may your weekend be filled with FUN!

Yours, Lisa.
